I've just supposed here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 5#p1468475 that the background mountain is the Hochstaufen in Bad Reichenhall.

You very well may be right. The only thing that might not fit with this hypothesis is the fact the unit was stationed in Mittenwald, more than 100 kilometres away from Bad Reichenhall. Perhaps they made journeys to nearby hospitals to provide relief to injured soldiers. Thanks for your interest.

(Note/reminder: Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 98 was the first regiment of the 1st Mountain Division.)
