This is his famous march ("a breakthrough in the German march music", as Prof. Hermann Schmidt later stated) "Unter dem Siegesbanner (Under the banner of victory) played by a Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in 1941, apperantely a few months before the operation "Barbarossa" started.
Franz von Blon (1961-1945)
Re: Franz von Blon
A couple of further Soviet recordings showing a certain popularity of von Blon in the pre-war USSR:
"Solingen Schützenmarsch" (in Russia translated as "Strelok (The Rifleman or The Shooter)") played by the Brass Band of the High School of Frontier Troops of the State Political Directorate under the conductorship of Fedor Nikolaevsky:

"Sizilietta" recorded by the Orchestra of the Bolshoi State Theater conducted by Lev Steinberg:

Both recordings were made in 1930.
The last recording is made again by Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in 1939, conducted by Alexander Orlov - "Zug der Gnomen":

Re: Franz von Blon
I've never seen this photo, thanks very much!
Also, very nice recordings! I especially like the first performance, which is additionally interesting considering the recording year.
Cheers,
Ivan
