[Two threads dealing with Lale Andersen have been merged. Ivan Ž.]

Lale Andersen was the original singer of the song "Lili Marleen". It was first played (I think) for the soldiers after the german army captured radio belgrade, and afterward the troops in africa began to request the song every night. it got translated into every soldier's languaje, and forever Lale will be associated with tht song.

regards

Lale Andersen was born as 'Lieselotte Helene Berta Bunnenberg on 23.3.1905 in Bremerhaven-Lehe & died - 29.8.1972 in Vienna. She recorded 'Lili Marleen' in 1939 after being offered the song by its composer - Norbert Schultze in 1938. She incurred the wrath of the Gestapo during the war by exchanging letters with Swiss jews and by trying to escape to Switzerland until being caught. Due to her popularity with the public and the negative effect that punishment would have wrought, she was merely banned from singing or performing for 9 months, until she was ordered to continue performing for the troops on radio and in concerts. She hated the song until her death in 1972, claiming that it was her curse.

I believe that her rendition of Drei rote Rosen..... (Three Red Roses...) - was very successful. At least it was a favourite that Fraulein Eva Braun played over and over, in the bunker - before she became Mrs. Hitler.

I have a genuine 1940s publicity photograph of Lale Andersen which she has autographed. As soon as I get a scanner I will upload it to the forum. I believe it to be quite rare as I have never seen another one of the same design. She looks very much like Hazel Cosgrove, the Scottish judge.

Kind regards.
The truth is that you're a quiet, sensitive type, but if I'm prepared to take a chance I might just get to know the inner you: witty, adventurous, passionate, loving, loyal, a little bit crazy, a little bit bad, but, hey, don't us girls just love that?
