Hi, can anyone point me to a place with information on the casualties for 1. FschJgDiv. at Monte Cassino? It'd be great to see a breakdown per battalion but I'll take what I can get. Thanks!

Reason: correct is only Monte Cassino - not Monte Casino !!

Hello Larso!

On May 18, 1944, the germans made a list of the Gefechtsstärke (combat strength) of the 1. Fallschirmjägerdivision (along with the 90. Panzergrenadierdivision and the 114. Jägerdivision). When it came to the Gefechtsstärke for the
1. FJD, the numbers were;

I./FschJägRgt 1 - 59
II./FschJägRgt 1 - 199
III./FschJägRgt 1 - 61
13./FschJägRgt 1 - 25
14./FschJägRgt 1 - 25

I./FschJägRgt 3 - 80
II./FschJägRgt 3 - 158

I. und II./FschJägRgt 4 - 235

Pi.Btl. der 1.FJD - 72

Returning Jägers - 45


Total strength May 18, 1944 for the 1. FJD: 959 men

Thank you very much. I'd known casualties were significant but that really spells it out!

The Polish 2 Korpus Polski (2 KP) 860 (incl. 72 officers) fallen, 2822 wounded (incl. 204 officers and 97 were missed (incl. 5 officers) http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_Korpus_Polski_%28PSZ%29
