FJ Rgt 2 Wound document query for 1944.

#1

Post by Bob Lyons » 16 Aug 2014, 06:07

Hi all,

I have this small FJ group for Ob.Gefr. Edwin Seeger of II./Rgt 2, his wound badge in black, (awarded 5 March 1944 in Lublin),
and his red cross armband certificate.

I was hoping some one would be able to add some detail as to where the unit would have been fighting when the
soldier was wounded, I presume it was Russia before the Regiment was moved to Normandy.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers

Bob

This is taken from the Lexikon entry for the regiment...

Thanks very much hucks216.

Bob

As of 23 December 1943, the Division is held down on the defensive. On 5 January 1944 the Russians renew their attacks against the Division and the 11th Panzer Division at Nowrodka in southern Russia.
The line, which was held by II. Battalion could be broken in some places by the tanks masses of the Russians. The regiments had to withdraw.

In January 1944, the remaining in the West II. Battalion is the new First Battalion of the Parachute Regiment and 10 is replaced. During the month of April, the Division was pulled out to freshen up after the fighting strength was running low on all units.

Bob

Just a precision : FJR 2 not moved to Normandy but to Britany. It's not exactly the same area...
