Correct. :)

Pöppel in his book mentions running into Bräuer during the Holland fight in 1940 and hearing his "unmistakable stammer".

Hi Peter,

Would it be Knochensacks (bonesack) was the nickname for German parachute jump smocks designed to wear over a paratrooper's equipment made for the Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger's during World War II/

Did it have a particular name Peter as cant seem to find it,info just saying step in smock on one of them.Or now check Robbs link says this on it,"The first pattern (1938) was manufactured in a plain green pattern. While it did have a front zipper openning it did not open fully and had to be stepped in to much like overalls".

Hi guys

It was called the M-36 Smock, introduced in 1937.

The Knochensack really began with the next version smock, the M-38,introduced in the summer of 1938.The M-36,though cumbersome, was easier to get in and out of with its double zippers.

M-36,M-38 etc seems both a description for helmets and smocks in the prewar Fallschirmjäger era!

Robb was close as close so his turn next.

Peter

Thanks Peter,

Next question: This was a shaped charge hand-thrown anti-tank grenade used by Luftwaffe ground troops in World War II. Can you name it?
