HGD off to the Warsaw front 1944
Hi Peter !

I found the location of the pictures you have posted on 12 April 2008... This is not really HGD off to the Warsaw front 1944, but in 1942 in Brittany ... :D
Look at this link of a french forum : http://bretagne-39-45.forums-actifs.com ... 5.htm#4561

Laurent

Peter,
I note the gas cape pouches on several soldaten in your photos of 7 January. Never really noted those much before. They were worn across the chest like that mostly by the inexperienced soldiers and got wrapped around the gas mask cannister by the veteran who found the chest placement uncomfortable.

Excellent photos, by the way.

regards,
John

Oh, in flak 4 on 7 January, what are the two fellows with backs to camera doing with their right hands?

Also, I note the national colors on the Leutnant's stahlhelm but not on the others. This might have been in a transition period when the colors were being removed from helmets?

Interesting. Not exactly a "strong" gesture.

This was a few weeks before the Germans launched a massive anti-partisan assault in the area south of Bologna
