Thanks for searching Tom!
This unit is one of the many "unknown" units that came into action in Holland in 1944.

Re: 7./lei. Flakabt. 838 Holland 1944
The Abteilung belonged to Flak-Rgt. 64 (Flakgruppe Duisburg)/4. Flakdivision. Many of the Flak-Abteilungen in the Ruhr area were ordered to send one or two batteries to Holland in September 1944 to reinforce the defensive positions along the front particularly after the Allied airborne landings. Tom has found mention of a number of these in the Korps records he has been researching, but apparently this one has not shown up yet. It was probably used to protect bridges and road intersections that were subject to attack by low-flying Allied aircraft. This unit is one of the many "unknown" units that came into action in Holland in 1944.

Thanks for the info Larry.
Also before the Airborne landings the Germans put more security and flak around the bridges in Holland in early september 1944. I hope some more info will show up in the future about this unit.

Unless something is in W.B. Netherlands records, I dont know if there is much left surviving for units in the area.
I should of stated at the end of my first post "there are of course people who know better than I do". If Larry doesnt have anything on flak.838, then I am not hopeful we will ever know much about it.

This summer I will visit the National Archive in Holland and will try to search for more info.
I have seen a document of 1./838 dated 2-1945.
The document mentioned that this unit was in the area of Geldern, Germany. (20 km south of Nijmegen)

Hi Floris,
Where do you think you can find information on the German records in the NA in The Hague?
I have visiting this archive regularly for the last ten years and never found any german records about the battles in Holland.
Think you'd better search in the NIMH (Nationaal Instituut Militaire Historie).
Greetings Jack.
