Luftw.Jäg.Rgt. 22 Südost

I got a letter from the Volksbund deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge about my request about my grandfather.
And in the letter it said where he was burried and his dogtag number and the name of the companie he served with.

Luftw.Jäg.Rgt. 22 Südost

i have been lokking this up on the internet and found the following but this does not answer all my questions.

Das Jäger-Regiment 22 (L) wurde am 1. November 1943 in Griechenland aufgestellt.

Is this the right companie or a different one. and what can i get from his dogtag number -2604-2.Kp.A.Flg.Ausb.Rgt.31 because that names a totaly different rgt.

any information about the numbers en regiments would be apriciatet as i im like i said looking to "find" my grandfather as he died when my mother was only 6 weeks.

thanks
Christine

Hello Christine,

before I forget :welcome:

Dog tags were usually issued by the unit where the recruit received basic training.

In the case of your grandfather that was Fl[ie]g[er].[-]Ausb.[ildungs-]R[e]g[imen]t. 31.
2. should be the numer of the company - so 2nd company of the above regiment.
I'm not sure what the middle 'A.' stands for, perhaps it means A.[usbildungkompanie] as opposed to a
Stabskompanie where the administrative and service functions of a regiment were concentrated.

Another - although very rare - possibilty is that 2. stands for 2nd battalion so it would mean
2nd Ausbildungs-Bataillon. This unusual interpretation would fit better to the nomenclature used in the
history of the regiment at least:

2604 means it's the 2604th dog tag issued by this unit

Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 31 (later called just Flieger-Regiment 31) was used to set up
both infantry regiments of 11. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division in autumn 1942.
