Crusade Against Communism Medal
1942-1944
This medal was instituted by Royal Decree No. 1014 of April 1, 1942 and was awarded to military personel irrespective of rank as well as civilians who had distinguished themselves in the battles on the Eastern front. The medal could be awarded without bars, but the following bars were authorized: BUCOVINA, BASARABIA, DOBROGEA, NISTRU, ODESSA, BUG, NIPRU, AZOV, CREMEEA, DONET, MAREA NEAGARA.
The medal is dated 1941, and it was awarded through 1944. After 1944, Romania was occupied by the Soviets, and this award became obsolete. In fact if would have been very unhealthy to be found with this medal under the Communist regime that followed the War.

Re: Identify unique ribbon bars?
I'd only add that it was widely awarded to German (& Italian) troops who were in Romanian "Theater", assigned to Rumanian Units/Staff, flew out of Rumanian Airfields, etc. (Pretty sure Non-Romanian Awards were without bars....
bars were the for Romanian recipients)...
These ribbon bars would be considered German WW2, even though the medal represented is a "foreign" award.

Romanian Crusade against Communism medal
Hi everyone,
I would like some help with a medal I recently purchased. The "Romanian Crusade again Communism medal".
I would like opinions as to whether it is original please?
I read up about it before buying and am aware that those made in Germany/Austria do not have the designer's name "P.Grant" on them.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Identify unique ribbon bars?
Probably a postwar strike.... for German veterans. I've had many wartime issues and all had the designer's name. Never heard of war-time German made versions with or without the designers name myself. No problem back then of getting Romanian made versions IMHO.

Hi John,
Thanks, I appreciate your reply!
The info regarding the German versions came from the following link: http://antique-photos.com/en/awardsdata ... medal.html
Maybe the info in the link is incorrect then?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
Not necessarily wrong, since there would be no "Austrian" versions made during the war.. they may have meant postwar versions (so called 2nd type)... (including German-made ones)... but to obscure to to be certain IMO.
