RKT Rudolf Pannier - Unknown Hungarian award

Postby Michael Miller on 13 Mar 2012 00:07

From the Soldbuch of Waffen-SS & Polizei RKT Rudolf Pannier. Can anyone identify this Hungarian Award? It looks
like "Offz. Kreuz des Ung. Feldienstkreuz mit Kriegsdekoration u. Schw." (Hungarian Field Service Cross with War Decoration and Swords - If so, should be 2 d's, i.e. "Felddienst..."), but I can't find reference to any Hungarian award bearing that designation. Source: andreas-thies.de .

With many thanks in advance,
~ Mike

Mike,

I believe it's the Offizierskreuz des Ung. Verdienstkreuz mit Kriegsdekoration und Schwerten (Officer's Cross of the Hungarian Merit Cross with War Decoration and Swords). This was typically known as the Order of Merit. The Officer's Cross is the pinback version worn without ribbon on the left breast. A pair of green laurel leaves (the "war decoration") was displayed between the lower arms of the cross and behind the crossed swords.

Best regards,
Shawn

Thanks, Shawn. I'm sure you're right. It looked like "Feldienst...", which makes no sense, but the unit stamp apparently made a "V" look like an "F" (to me, anyway).

It's the Hungarian Cross of Fire.
