knights cross identification

#1

Post by oudgidske » 09 Jul 2014, 10:08

I recently procured a lot of German insignia and medals from an older collector. Since I'm not an expert, I'm trying to find out if it are originals.

Once again...nobody can tell much from these type photos... need close up, straight on, focused shots of both sides, frame, and markings.... however, as in the case of the Blood Order you posted.... rare medal, heavily reproduced, chances are basically "nil".... but would like to see the better pictures.

Being from an "old collection" means NOTHING....

Hope these pics are better, the cross is magnetic, and markings show what I think is I 712.
Appreciate your help.

These are still not "straight on" shots..... or nearly enough pictures....there are "small" defects or flaws in the beading that are needed to tell.... even then, not an easy call. The marking are "L/12", a quick search on goggle or "Wehrmacht Awards Forum" will provide the answer your seeking from a forum specializing in German Awards.... as well as known reproductions.

From what I can see....I'm very skeptical, but I'm not an expert on Knights Crosses (and would have to have books, computer, and the "item" in hand before I'd commit on such a valueable item unless it was obviously good or bad.....)

Glad to help when I can... but this isn't an easy call.

Here are straight-on shots of an authentic cross. For the sake of easy identification of a legit cross and a reproduction, look at how different the shape of the "3" is on the reverse side and in the date of "1813"
