Authentication and Valuation of Cloth Patches

#1

Post by demodogtwo » 28 Sep 2014, 06:11

Please help me verify the authenticity of these three cloth badges and subsequently their approximate values in today's market. I recently obtained these items from my father's estate. My father was wounded on the beaches of Normandy the day before D-Day. He spent 1 year at Walter Reed Hospital after suffering his wounds and wore shrapnel until he recently passed. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The sleeve eagle is original based on those photos, and probably worth up to $250. The KL Staff skull tab is a poor fake and I cannot comment on the cloth EKI with any degree of certainty .... my gut feeling is that it's fake though.

How did your Father get wounded on the day BEFORE D-Day ? D+1 yes, but D-1 ??

Cheers, Ian.

My father was a Scout with the Rangers who were used to locate the German positions before the full invasion. Very few of the scouts survived. My father layed on the beach for 24 hours before being evacuated the following day. He spent 1 year at Walter Reed Hospital in recuperation of his wounds. He was awarded a bronze star as well. I am very proud of his valor.

Rightfully so :D

I assume he collected the insignia post-war from local vets or arms fairs then ?

I agree with Ian's assessment of these.... eagle looks good... the other two are not.....

Can you post your fathers full name as it was on D-Day-1. Just curious.
