SS Runes Ring

#1

Post by JB55 » 08 Dec 2014, 15:46

Hi everyone,

I was at my local antique shop specialised in militaria and came across this ring (attached).

I was told it was a custom made piece that was found in the pocket of a jacket that was part of a collection from an British soldier who fought in Africa and in Operation Market Garden.

I couldn't find any information on this ring, until finally I stumbled across this site selling replicas:
http://leibstandart.com/updates/3933/59190/

Does anybody know if the original ring actually existed or is it a fantasy ring?

Thank you in advance.

It appears to be cast rubbish.

The photo is of the replica but it looked identical (as you would expect from a replica) including it's 'aged look'.
No markings on either the ring or replica.

The dealer states a letter of authenticity will be provided.

It's impossible to comment on an un-pictured item....
On any unofficial, undocumented, private purchase ring such as this..... everything is in the eye of the beholder.... Not being official almost any style is possible, personally I wouldn't give it shelf-space and agree it's complete CRAP (trying to be kind- )...... a "C.O.A" means next to nothing!.... many "big dealers" sell all sorts of crap with great stories and wonderful pictures (and COAs).... doesn't "do anything" style-wise" either...poor "design" IMHO.

Not unless I PERSONALLY dug this up "somewhere in Eastern Europe" (and still had the finger-bone attached) would I believe it's real!

Thanks for the replies.
I am aware of Germania but this is a storefront shop in Australia.
I have since come across threads on other forums that have strengthened my suspicions.
From what I have read, this dealer has allegedly try to/sold fakes in the past and is not very credible.
I even found screen shots of when the ring was advertised on the store website back in February (see link-page 5- post 3).

I actually went to the store to look at a boxed Iron Cross First Class with marker mark 100, but the enamel looked badly painted and now think I will just avoid buying anything just in case!

Here's a thread from WAF with a mint '100' Wachtler & Lange EKI to show the correct construction etc ...

In my opinion W&L products have stood the test of time MUCH better than most ... even the zinc ones.

A few on mine ..
