Unknown Medallion/Necklace

A guy I work with brought in this piece and I have no idea what it is. It could easily be nothing.

Any help would be appreciated. He's curious, and frankly so am I.

Thanks

It's a "hanger" type Tinney (Donation badge) for the W.H.W./V.D.A. (Winter Hilft Werk)Volksbund Deutscher Ausland) Organization (Winter Relief/NS Germans living abroad)... not rare but alittle more striking than most WHW/Donation pins and prone to breakage.... yours still has it's original hanging string....

These were sold "streetside" to raise money, usually for the Winter Welfare Organization (WHW), sometimes for a particular organization.... and only worn for the day or duration of the event or fund-drive... but widely "collected" by German civilians back then- thus the huge variety of "Tinneys" the "GIs" (meaning all Allied) brought home....

For reference... IMO worth $18./25.00 retail US Market.
Hope this helps....
