:welcome:
You have a 1939 Iron Cross 2nd Class.... the photograph you posted is of a Knights Cross of the Iron Cross... BIG DIFFERENCE.

Your 2nd Cl. is an "average example" without a ribbon...retail $75.00US. Don't clean it (You'll only make things worse!)

A Knight's Cross is alittle larger than the Iron Cross 1st & 2nd Cl., the K.C. has a differant suspension, the afixed ring is "flat" to the frame and the ribbon ring is a loop (oval) for the wider neck ribbon... on the Iron Cross 2nd Cl. it has a circular ring... and the afixed small ring is at a 90 degree angle to the frame for the "flat" mounted ribbon.

Search "Iron Cross" and you'll find details...

NOT "a little larger!" The KC is about 2X the size of a 2. Kl.

Not 2Xs, an Iron Cross 1st/2nd class is 43.8 to 45mm and a Knights Cross is 48.2 to 48.8 so only 3 to 5mm differance.. "alittle larger"...(depending on maker of course)

The "Grand Cross" was about 2Xs, probably what you were thinking.

EKIIs are extremely common, unless it's a rare variant or scarce manufacturer a medal in this (in my opinion pretty poor) condition could even be hard to sell. As John says leave it well alone and don't try to clean it.
