Unknown Badge
Hello all. I came across a badge that I cannot identify. The clasp looks German, but I cannot tell for sure. Was wondering if any may be able to identify, or at least point me in the right direction. Thanks a bunch -Greg
Re: Unknown Badge
Greg,
Postwar German 10 Yr. membership pin for Sports/Athletic/Social organization (design is certianly based on DRA/DRL Sports badge). No idear exactly which Organizations (L.S.A. ?)... but pin and catch are definately "postwar" type.
Would have no "collector value" as such (for WW2 collectors, that is).

Re: Unknown Badge
Thanks for the info John. I found this badge at an antique store for $8. I couldn't identify and the price was so cheap that I took a gamble. Oh well, at least is was fun researching to see what in the heck it was. Got a couple hours of enjoyment there
Re: Unknown Badge
As has been said above, it's a post-war item.
This is the Bavarian Sports Proficiency Badge (Bayerisches Sport-Leistungs-Abzeichen; that's what the "SLA" monogram stands for.), awarded by the Bavarian State Sports Association [Bayerischer Landes-Sportverband or BLSV for short] from 1949 to 2012.
It came in bronze, silver and gold grades. The number at the base (here, a "10") identified the number of times the wearer had re-qualified for the badge.
Here are examples of the basic gold grade (full size badge, stickpin and cloth version) which belonged to my grandfather (who qualified for the badge in 1958):
