Iron Cross with oak leaves
Hello,
I'm considering buying this Iron Cross with gold leaves (the pictures are attached) from a friend of mine. His grandfather passed away recently and he had a huge collection of militaria that is now being sold, and this medal is one of the collection's finest pieces.
I think that it is a real WW2 German medal, but I'm not an expert and I would like to have a second opinion from the people on this forum before spending a lot of money on it.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Iron Cross with oak leaves
The oak leaves and swords are definately fake..... (and are not gold- would only be silver if real). The Knights Cross would require better photos of the details (Frame, markings, loop, swas. height compared to frame, the beading...) before attempting a realistic opinion, but my initial opinion is that the Knights Cross is also bad... but much better photos are required. You should ask about this type stuff in the appropriate section... not here.

Thank you very much for your answer John!
Sorry about that, I'm new to this forum and didn't know that this wasn't the correct place to ask, I've just seen someone asking the same question in this forum and tried to do the same; where should I ask about this type of stuff?
The oak leaves with swords are not really gold, they're actually silver, or kinda silver at least, in person, maybe the colors are not perfect in the photos. What other details do you see in the oak leaves and swords to say that they're definately fake? If you could please tell me a little it would help me a lot to learn how to identify this type of medal.
Regards,
Marco.

They never were hollow on reverse.
An original reverse of Oak Leaves with Swords, always are marked with the thousandths of silver, "900" in this case,
and a number of manufacturer ,"21" in this case.
In my opinion ( Judging by the hook ) the Cross is also fake.

Well, me thinks that the cross is Not a KC, but rather a 2.Kl.

It's certainly been heated up ... maybe to artificially age it or maybe to add the RK-style jump ring. The swastika isn't really deep enough for a RK based on these poor photos.Sarge wrote:Well, me thinks that the cross is Not a KC, but rather a 2.Kl.
