WW1 EK1 1914 Non Magnetic.

Post by MIKE29 » 10 May 2016, 03:13

Hi,
I purchased a few odds and ends over the weekend, which were found in an old tin.
Out of the woodwork in a tin, non militaria source.
A woman with a tin of bric a brac.

1X WW2 RAF Ground Gunner Trade Badge (GG) Black on White cloth.
1x Unknown Canadian Cloth Badge.
2x WW2 RAF Printed LAC insignia .Unused.
1x WW2 RAF Black /Blue Right Shoulder Insignia.
1x WW2 RAF Signaller Brevet. Used Very Good Condition.

1x WW2 German EK2. No Maker Mark. IT IS A RIGHT ONE FOR SURE!
1X WW1 German EK1. .No Maker, 3 PIECE CONSTRUCTION!

Now the last on has me truly stumped! It is the first time I have ever come across one.
This has age and patina.I have seen many copies. But not one with this type of hinge.
The WW1 EK1 is of the standard 3 piece ,slightly convex construction, but with non magnetic core.

I have seen one piece lumps COPIES, JEWELLER'S COPIES (RUBBISH), but never one like this!
All the other items pan out, but the EK1 has me stumped!

If it was one a dealers stall ,I would have walked away. This was in a tin full of real junk!

Opinions please.

Mike

Hi John,
Thank you for the reply.

I did not think it was a dud,The construction is has good has any EK1 or EK2 that I have owned.

Any thoughts has to the manufacturer/ date of, value?
Why the elaborate construction for shall we say, '' Jeweller's Copy''.

I have sometimes heard of this type of crosses being described has ''Airship Issue''.
For use or wear in environments were sparks could be generated from the IRON core version.

Initially it was only the WW2 RAF insignia was of interested to me.

In all
For me, I believe it was a good pick and very refreshing to find something out of the wood work in such a long time.
So good hunting guys and gals, there is still a bargain and a lost treasure still to be found.

Many thanks for your reply John.

Best Regards from South Wales,
Mike
