Re: Unidetified badge / emblem
Hello all,
Too many variants to be of wartime production, not to mention they are all ground dug........and from Poland.
My vote is that they are fantasy.

It seems strange that they are almost all in the same state of deteriation-one would suspect there would be a wider range of quality, even for ground-dug items. Were all examples of this medal somehow buried? No-one managed to save even ONE in good shape?Strange. ---bil

Re: Unidetified badge / emblem
Hello Gentlemen,
I cannot see these badges are in the same state of preservation - for example the 6th one is badly corroded, but e.g. the 4th one is in pretty good condition, while others place themselves somewhere between these two.
As far as I know, nearly all of them were dug out from the ground in generally northern Poland, Pomerania and former East Prussia. A very wide area and time period of nearly 10 years now.
As I remember, only one of these badges was bought by its current owner.
Regards
Grzesio

Re: Unidetified badge / emblem
And very quickly - the mysterious badge, specimen number ten:
The same discussion forum nd topic as above.
This example was found near a road near Gdynia (Gotenhafen), in a place of heavy battles in 1939 and 1945.
The previous badge, number nine, was found in an abandoned house in the area of Torun (Thorn), and so both locations point to Pomerania again.

Hello again,
Since we can't all make up our minds on these I've moved them over to the other forum for more opinions:

Number 13th:

Found in the Bydgoszcz / Bromberg area.
And yet another one, 14th piece:

This one comes from the Grudziadz / Graudenz region.
Two more were found near Bydgoszcz / Bromberg.
There are still many theories, but no definitive proof of its identity so far.

Re: Unidetified badge / emblem
That badge is a total fantasy piece ... every time one shows up it looks just like the one that started this thread ... heavily chemically aged and almost always with a pin that is in much better condition than the badge it is attached to.
Re: Unidetified badge / emblem
I considered this option too, among half a dozen others, but there is a couple of arguments against the fantasy piece version.
Practically all the badges known were dug up. Of course, there are known cases where totally fantasy items were recently put in popular battle areas, where probability of finding them is relatively high. If such a badge is later found indeed, the circumstances seem to prove its authenticity naturally - what in turn may result in the badge being accepted as genuine and reaching higher prices.
The problem is, our mysterious badges, except of very few cases, were not found in popular places. A ruined house in a small village, accidental finds in the middle of a field etc. The badges known to me have been surfacing for more then ten years now. And what's significant, these badges are incredibly rare on the market. I've heard of two - one on an internet auction and one on a flea market. In other words, the badges are found, not bought. If just no-one sells them, the theory of putting fake badges in popular places to be found and considered authentic makes no sense.
And spreading fake badges in a quarter of a country for over a decade, just to spread them, makes even less sense.
Also, not all these badges are "heavily chemically aged" - there are also perfectly preserved examples, sadly some pictures linked here were already deleted, as I see.
EDIT:
An example (15) found near Kolobrzeg / Kolberg - also very far to the west as compared to the other ones.

Example (16) without "heavy chemical ageing":

Re: Unidetified badge / emblem
Why so interest on a fake and rusty piece ?
I'm hard to convince.
