Show us your Third Reich decorations!
Re: Show us your Third Reich decorations!
Well ,it seems that I got distracted and forgot to continue with posting photos of my medal collection after only about 4 posts. That was 15 months ago.
Soo - I'll now belatedly continue.
First my Iron Crosses and then wound badges.

most impressive. The patina on the Spanish Cross in silver with swords looks just perfect and undisturbed!

Re: Show us your Third Reich decorations!
Hello everyone,
It's been a long time since I've contributed anything but am excited to finally be back. I just wanted to share with all of you an exciting find that just dropped into my lap. I hope you are as excited as I am. As you can se they are in need of some TLC after sitting in a barn for decades. I'll post more later after I figure out the best way to restore them.
Thanks for your time.
Dennis

Congrats but Isn't being stored in a barn a part of the history of these decorations?
Conservation might be a better course of action better than restoration.

My modest collection plus the recent acquisitions.
Re: Show us your Third Reich decorations!
Excellent beginning, and the German Cross is certainly worthy of collecting by any standards... nice pick up. A very close look at the wreath is needed...IMO.... to tell whether it has any "gold" traces or if it's "silver"... Silver would be REALLY good, but may be hard to tell after the cleaning... and photos can be deceptive... Silver German Crosses are much scarcer than gold.

Re: Show us your Third Reich decorations!
Thank you so much for your comments. I took a few more photos under different conditions to show the German Cross badge in better detail. The wreath does indeed seem to be a silver color as I can see no traces of gold anywhere. It shows evidence of having been worn by someone somewhere and at some unknown time so maybe the gold color has worn off. The person I bought the group from knew not what they were and was glad to get the fifty dollars he asked for the lot. Gold or silver I am still stunned this group is in my collection. If only they could talk.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
