I've found the following info:
From May 1942 till the end of 1942 he was commander from 1. Kompanie within the Bataillon ‘Dern’ der Waffen-SS z.b.V. and later this Kompanie was assigned to Einsatzgruppe A.

Mike,

could be a typing error my DAL 01.07.1944(which clearly gives 263), I guess Phil has an original, mine is the one published by Biblio-Verlag/Brün Meyer 1987.

The June 1941 attachment of Störtz can be found in a report of SS-FHA dated 23 Aug 1941 (signed Juttner):

"1.) Die 3 selbständigen Kompanien des ehemaligen Sonder-Batls zur Verfügung Kommandostab RFSS (SS-Stubaf. Dern) erhalten folgende Bezeichnung:
1. Kp./Btl. der Waffen-SS z.b.V.
2. Kp./Btl. der Waffen-SS z.b.V.
3. Kp./Btl. der Waffen-SS z.b.V

"2.) Der Eintrag in den Wehrpass über mitgemacht Gefechte, Schlachten, Unternehmungen usw. im Krieg wird erst nach Abschluss der Gefechtshandlungn bekanntgegeben.

"3.) Zuständige Ersatzeinheit für diese 3. Kompanien des Btls. der Waffen-SS z.b.V. ist das SS-Ers.Batl. 'Ost' Breslau."

Führer, 2.Kompanie attached to Einsatzgruppe B -
SS-Ostuf Helmut Schreiber

Führer, 3.Kompanie attached to Einsatzgruppe C -
SS-Ostuf Grafhorst.

I have the copy of a book, "Die Sicherheitspolizei in Estland, 1941-44", by Ruth Bettina Birn (Ferdinand Schoeningh, Paderborn, 2006), which confirms other posts re Stortz, in that he was Deputy to Sandberger as KdS "Estland" (12/41) and Leiter Abt. I/II on the KdS staff (8/42). He joined the SS in 1937, but does anyone know his career from then? It's just that I find it odd that in July 1941 he was a platoon and then company commander in what was ostensibly a former Totenkopfstandarte, which was detached and assigned to SK 1a (Estland), and then he suddenly finds himself assigned to the SIPO/SD. Okay, as Leiter Abt.I he would have been head of personnel (German and Estonian auxiliaries), but I find it strange that he is Waffen-SS one minute, SD the next and then back to Waffen-SS again (Estnisches Legion and 20th Waffen-Gren-Div. der SS). The book does mention that he was "questioned" in October 1960. Hope I haven't confused anyone? Thanks

Stoertz was always Waffen-SS, but when push came to shove KdS Estonia need available hands on deck to do the work. Incidentally I don't think he was Leiter I (Administration); according to him he (in 1942) was “zeitweiliger Personalreferent und Referent für Wirtschaftsfragen, Abt III D” (a SD function) in Esthonia. By Nov 1942 back with Waffen-SS full-time.

I know Ruth BB and we have often met and talked when visiting Ludwigsburg and London. Like many who publish with Schöningh, wishes they published a 2nd edition as she get inundated by requests about this book. Estonia being one of those areas that has been under-researched and published. Students looking for a new angle...
