Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Hello, again, John,
The pic I have which is shown on Page 3 is the same one I have complete with signature. Granted it is a copy of the signed pic, and comparing the original autograph of Mr. Nowotnik with this one, there is a difference. I am not sure if, with time, the signature changed. There are similarities and yet differences.
However the two pix are so close in resemblance in almost all areas, that it would be very difficult not to conclude that the pic on Page 3 is,in fact, Nowotnik. However, at this time, I cannot say 100%, that it is indeed he. It may be that the depicted is not a KC holder, but an imposter.
I can find no name in Krätschmer to coincide with the autograph of the depicted on Page 3.
Sorry, I cannot do more at this time. Perhaps someone can supply additional confirmation of that pic.
Take care.
Terry

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Hello, Chris,
Many thanks for that additional information. It is now clear who that pic is supposed to be.
But there is a strong resemblance to Nowotnik in that pic.
Take care, and thanks again.
Best regards.

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
I think the KM RKT on page 281(0055a) posted by Bake is Hans Trojer.

U-boat: Kaeding, Kals, von Schroeter, the other pics show von Schroeter and König.

the "KM page 22" entirely id'ed now. (done also Hardegen and Mühlbauer)
Just in case I misunderstood or did view wrong : kriegsmarine4.jpg is the L.I. König (?).
crossed out the former entry on the confirmations list : from left to right : Walter Käding - Ernst Kals - ? -> Horst von Schroeter, confirmed ?

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
A short summary about the von Tiesenhausen / Franken case. No objection from my point of view. Please check if the understanding of the results is correct as always (will "go index" like below).
The initially named 3509754.jpg pic, but called also 55.03 during the discussion Wilhelm Franken
this pic (head only) on page 314 (= 32.01 KiB)
another variant of the Franken ceremony on page 315
whereas we see
Hans-Diedrich Freiherr von Tiesenhausen
same moment, similar shot
head, closer view
Best regards
Bernd
