Luftwaffe and Marine Radarsites
Yesterday, we decided to investigate some 2. Ordn. site., which had been already known to us. Some time ago I asked you to help me identify an unknown piece of concrete. This time I may come with a little more detailed description:
Location: In the area of former "barracks"
(what's interesting is that there isn't even a single remnant left - all facilities were thus probably wooden, how about the T-hut???????)
Dimensions:
width (visible side) = 3.50 m
length (side partially hidden) = unknown, at least 3 m, but less than ~7-8 m
height over ground = 0.75 m
Pls note a specific shaped crack in the middle (some 7 cm deep, 9 cm wide)
It is now covered with garbage and soil. We tried to uncover as much as possible, but it became too difficult with just an entrenching tool. We were not so clever (or we were too tired) to check if the foundation is square-shaped...
What might it be? A foundation of something, surely, but what?
btw.
The "barracks" were placed on a piece of grass area and surrounded with lines of trees.
The radar postuments (2 x WR) are placed on an open, ploughed field.
I was trying to search for some small concrete pieces - base for Peilers, but it was fruitless - I think because they were small, light and thus easy to be removed (farmers don't like such "crap" in the middle of their field). Or maybe placing Peilers on 4 concrete "feet" wasn't a rule? On SES's site, both Hans and Heinrich stand on 4 small socles. But was that in any case?
thanks again for any answers,
brgds, M

Here is another mystery. Could it have sth to do with radars?
This piece of concrete is almost for sure of German wartime origin.
Placed on a flat, open field it looks like it collapsed from some height, because under it there is concrete debris and some bricks.
It is placed on some 60 x 30 m strange looking rectangular area, covered with grass as the rest of the big field, but placed somehow higher, just few centimetres - the border is visible (its lines are straight).
Dimensions: (to be added later, side appx. 4-5 m, thickness 50 cm)
Pls note the holes on the 2 opposite sides (marked yellow on the general picture, then zoomed from the above).

Hello Beaviso
Had som time to "investigate" this mysterious sockle !!!
I have no solutions yet, but it is clearly a foundation to something, as there is no room underneath it ??
I have not seen anything similar before, so therefore we have to hope for other reaction on this question.
Regards

Hello!
Finally back from 2 weeks in "the fields", I have a lot of interesting radarsites to show
First out is this "FuMo3 Calais Zerstörer-säule. Maybe the last surviving example in "wild life"??? Anyway, it`s a mystery itself, as it is placed all alone in the middle of nowhere, not mentioned in any documents or listings I`ve ever seen......

This is sensational. Probably the only surviving sample in the world. Where is "the middle of nowhere" more specifically? Have you got more comming. In that case I have to buy an additional external HD
SES
Yes there are quite a few surviving examples of the Würzburg Riese and at least one has been in working condition until recently. In Denmark there are a few surviving bits and pieces, but NONE in their original location on the ORIGINAL operators cabin. A few museums might be interested in your FuMO 3, if the place is not too inaccessible.Erik E wrote:Guess this piece is a little more common then!
Parts of a W.Riese in the "Stellung Veilchen" at Vigra in western Norway.
Congratulations
