Sorry; Patrice, I just re-read your post. I thought you were saying the bracket on the track guards was adjustable. Now I realize you were referring the lower one on the schürzen plate.
The mesh schürzen were not fitted to the Stug III's because it would have need a new mounting system designed which would have delayed installation of the schürzen on the Stug. Spielberger also says the wire mesh was difficult to obtain, which may explain why so few vehicles are shown with it mounted.

In thomaschurzen,adjustable brackets were fitted to the mudguards, the mesh screen only had a sliding plate to fix the schurzen to that bracket.
On the contrary solid steel schurzen had adjustable brackets fixed to the steel plate itself,only fixed hooks bolted to the mudguards.
The upper rails were also different.There were at least four different styles for hull schurzen in Stug III and IV,Pz III ,Pz IV, JagdPz IV...Along the war of course.
In StuG II and IV one of them seem to be a field mod but somehow standarised...Some day I´d like to ask for your help on this one.

Javichu;
The schürzen fitted to the StuG III Ausf. G was a factory fit, but fit-up's to the Ausf. F8 and some Ausf. f was a field mod.
The Panzer IV, Panzer IV/70(V), and Panzer IV/70(A) were pretty much factory-fitted systems. The Stug III Ausf G seems to have had a series of schürzen configurations. Several have been discussed on Missing Links.

The field mod I´m interested is the one on Kubinka´s StuH 42 ,also seen in that colour newsreel of Seelow Heights with SS Sturmgeschutze and Sturmhaubitze(See the Panzers in colour thread)... The question is that if it was a field mod made locally in unit workshops why was it so widely used? I have seen it in StuG III,from 1943 until 1945 and the schurzen are cut and fixed very much in the same fashion with some local variants ...
The rails disappear,the shurzen (solid steel ones) are cut and only the lower part is used,then they are fixed with a piece of pipe that go thought the plate in the upper part (exactly in the gravity Center -Is that correct for "centro de gravedad"?)allowing them hanging loose so that if any obstacle is crosed they can swing without falling,the pipe is fixed to the mudguards that are reinforced with a steel angle .The side of the combat chamber is protected by two pieces of steel that look like the remains of the upper part of the schurzen and fixed with a steel frame like spaced armor.
There are pictures of this mod taken at the western front and at the ostfront,so it should have been used by many units at the same time but it looks like they followed closely the same project.
