Hello,
I'm looking for information on the Czech general Gadja.I know that he asked the german to let him be at the head of a Czech collaborationist governement, but without success.
I'm also looking for information about the activities of the "general" Semenov during the Japanese occupation in Mandchuria.

Is that true as Soljenitsyn wrote that both the german and the soviets had asked Denikin to join them, but he declined?

I'm also searching for any information about white generals having served under one of the belligrant.

General P.N. Krasnov, "retired" leader of Donskaya Republic (during the 1918 civil war in Russia), was one of the kossaks leaders during the WW2 and fought on the German side. But you can know about it because he used to work closely with fon Panwitz.

A.I. Denikin, ex-leader of the Volonteer's Army, remained neutral during the WW2, but he convicted for a bit russian people, fighting against bolshevism. He claimed, that cooperation with Nazi will cause only additional troubles for Russia.

About others I'll speak later...

Hi!

In October 1919, the later Gruppenführer Rudolfs Bangerskis served as a Generalleutnant as commander of the 2. Ufa Rifle Corps and from March 1920, commander of the 2. Ufa Division.

Regards,

Thanks for that additional information about Gajda, AJK.

Krasnov, Pyotr N. (c. 1869-16.1.1947) [Russian White Army Lt. General] -- Cossack Ataman {arrested in Austria 27 May 1945 by British security forces; turned over to Soviet authorities by British Brigadier General Toby Low (later Lord Aldington); put on trial by the Military College of the Supreme Court of the USSR on treason charges; convicted and sentenced to death by hanging; execution announced 7 Jan 1947 (Operation Keelhaul p. 81) or 16 Jan 1947 (LT 17 Jan 1947:4f). Lieutenant General Pavel Sudoplatov, Soviet director of the Administration for Special Tasks, suggests that the British traded General Krasnov and other white Russian and ROA officers for Grossadmiral Erich Raeder, other German Navy (Kriegsmarine) officers and a group of German generals (Special Tasks p. 169; The Mitrokhin Archives pps. 134-136, p. 600n).}

Gen. Shandruk commanded a brigade in Tsarist army and Iron Division in Ukrainian army during the civil war. Mannerheim also commanded some unit in Tsarist army - I think it was Ulans.

Mannrheim's commands in the Imperial Russian Army during the WWI:

Commander Separate Guard’s Cavalry Brigade in Warsaw (24 December 1913 – 12 June 1915) ● Acting commander 12th Cavalry Division (3 March 1915 – 12 June 1915) ● Commander 12th Cavalry Division (12 June 1915 – 12 June 1917) ● Commander VI Cavalry Corps (12 June 1917 – 6 September 1917) ● Sick leave (6 September 1917) [IIRC Mannerheim injured his back when his horse stumbled and fell] ● Returned to Finland (December 1917).

At the beginning of the WWI Mannerheim was a Major-General in the Emperor's Retinue, on 27 April 1917 he was promoted to Lieutenant-General, but the promotion was antedated to February 1915. He was also awarded several decorations, Mannerheim was most proud of St. George's Cross, 4th class, he was awarded on 18 December 1914.

Old General Krasnov's son & grandson served with him under German command during WW2. The grandson survived being handed over by the British & subsequent imprisonment in the Gulag, & left a fascinating memoir:

KRASNOV, N. N., Jr. The Hidden Russia: My Ten Years as a Slave Laborer. New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, New York (1960).

Young Krasnov starts his story with the hand-over, so there's not all that much about the actual war years. Allegedly, he was poisoned to death by the Soviet secret police in retaliation for publishing this memoir.

Ukrainian General Shandruk left an equally fascinating memoir:

SHANDRUK, Pavlo. Arms of Valor. New York: Robert Speller & Sons (1959).

Shandruk's memoirs commence with his service in WWI & the ensuing Russian Civil War, to & including WW2. Included in his work, is an account of his meeting with the Russian General Vlassov.

Both books are long out of print but can be located using services such as http://www.abebooks.com.

2 years? They could not have much on him! A child would probably get more if convicted and sentenced...
