Northrop YC-125 Raider
Short-field light assault transport and Arctic rescue aircraft. Three 1200 hp WrightR-1820-99 radials. Used mainly for mechanical training until disposed of as surplus in 1955.
http://home.att.net/~jbaugher3/cdesig.html
The Northrop N-23 Pioneer was designed as a short take off and landing (STOL) transport and first flew in 1946. Due to the large number of war surplus aircraft, the Pioneer did not sell.
In 1948, Northrop received a contract to build 23 aircraft based on the N-23 for the U.S. Air Force. Designated the YC-125 Raider, the aircraft was found to be underpowered for its intended missions--transport to forward combat areas and Arctic rescue. It was also determined that helicopters were better suited for these missions. The existing YC-125s were declared surplus in 1955.

Thanks Auf,

This was a lucky shot from my part. The cockpit/nose glazing looked a bit "soviet" to me and the whole plane resembled this plane(box) from my youth:

So I made a search with rotodyne+soviet ...and Bingo, there the Ka-22 was.
Sorry, nothing about soviet tilt wing planes.

Next once more "name of the plane" question:

Regards, Juha

Sure looks like a FORCA AEREA PORTUGUESA G 91 R/3 in the old "Tiger Meet" colours for Belgium's hosting of the event in 1978.

Squadron 303- The Tigers?

Should make good company with "our own" 335SQ... if in 1978 then us would be there with F-104 if my memory doesn't fail....

I don't think Greece was at the 1978 Tiger Meet in Kliene Brogel. What a/c #'s of F104's were there? I know 335 "Tiger" Mira used them from the mid-sixties onwards but haven't seen a Greek Starfighter in a Tiger Meet. :?

Anyway, here's a nice Cdn Starfighter at painted as at a Tiger Meet. :D

My question now involves these beautiful planes. Where and why was this picture taken?

A :)
