Und wenn wir marschieren

Worte: Walter Gättke, 1922
Melodie: Walter Gättke, 1922

1.
Und wenn wir marschieren,
dann leuchtet ein Licht,
I: das Dunkel und Wolken
strahlend durchbricht. :I

2.
Und wenn wir uns finden,
beim Marsch durch das Land,
I: dann glüht in uns allen
heiliger Brand. :I

3.
Und wenn wir im Sturme
dem Ziel uns genaht,
I: dann ragt vor uns allen
Neuland der Tat. :I

4.
Du Volk aus der Tiefe,
du Volk in der Nacht,
I: vergiß nicht das Feuer,
bleib auf der Wacht! :I

Wandervogel movement was not a Nazi movement! Wandervogel came up at the beginning of 20th century, later after WW I it became part of "buendische Jugend". Nazi and HJ stole a lot of ideas from Wandervogel, but it was a free youth movement. It was romantic and they loved their Vaterland, they had both democratic and non-democratic elements. Some ideas were near to fascism, others not. Some Wandervogel leaders were arrested in 3rd Reich and the movement was forbidden.
Such songs and such pictures (german "Lagerfeuerromatik") were typicall for bourgeois youth movements in Germany from 1900 - 1933. Also christian and non-political youth groups used such methods and ideas.

Yes Wandervogel was banned by the time the third Reich had set up the hitler youth as the sole youth group, although in the book Hitlers Children (author unknown?) one of the leading nazi children (child of famous part member) stated that they wher ein an informal group in southern germany well into the late 30's. My memory however is sketchy.

Anyway. The Wandervogel was dead by this point.
