Hitler Jugend visits Japan in August 1938




Hitler Jugend arriving at Yokohama by Gneisenau at 13:00 on August 16, 1938. They shouted 'dainippon banzai' (大日本万歳! : Viva Great Japan!) in Japanese on their arrival.

Does any of you which route Gneisenau used to go to Japan? Did they pass through the Suez canal?

The cruiser Köln also visited Japan in 1933:

Passenger liners from Europe normally went via the Suez Canal to Asia.It made the trip more exotic and added some sight-seeing.

Earl Futara Yoshinori (二荒芳徳) was a leader of Japanese boyscout.

The white dress HJ belts were specially commissioned by the RJF stab for this event, they were not the normal official dress issue.
Just in case you did not know. It was to contrast with the uniform and make them look smarter.

Kitahara Hakushu (北原白秋) wrote the lyrics for a welcome song for the delegation of Hitler Jugend.
