Demolition charges experts?

#1

Post by Gert T » 01 Jun 2006, 08:52

Hi,

Does anyone has good pictures or sites with clear information (visual) about German WW2 Demolition charges that were placed under bridges? I need this for a 1/35 modeling project.
Preferably soldiers who are placing them and what material they use..

Thanks a lot!

G.

Hi!

The German engineers used for that kind of work mainly 3 items:

the "Sprengbüchse 24" (a 1Kg charge)
the "Geballte Ladung 3Kg"
and (for smaller obstacles) the "Sprengkörper 200gr" or the "Bohrpatrone 100gr"

I served for 12 years in the German Army in a Pionierbataillon. Some of our field manuals still used pictures from the Wehrmacht.

If you have some special pictures maybe I can help.

Well first of all thanks for your help!

I look for pictures of WW2 German soldiers who are placing charges + detonators under a bridge. I also look for pictures of the packaging/bag/box were all the material was put in to let down to the soldiers under the bridge..
If you would have more pic's, don't hesitate! 8-)

What are the charges on the bridge rod called, in English?
If I remeber my pionier training in the german Bundeswehr, the german term for something like that was "Schneidladung".
The use of mines for demolition was called "Schlagladung". I suppose it was ignited via (a) 200g Sprengkörper.

Day
Pic I was originally trying to find..
ChrisMAg2..Sorry no idea what the charge is called in english as my less than illustious military stint was with NORAD.
But the picture seems to show common demo charges like those in Hoover's post above ,being held in place by wooden boards/plywood? Gert T.. Films also show Luftwaffe bombs being used. Fast way just detonate on bridge deck and the slower (but better) method is digging em into the road surface near as possible to the bridge embuttment.
