Strange shields found in 113d Schartenstand.
When the C.I.O.S. (Jersey) gained entry to the Type 113d 6 loophole bunker at Wn. Bel Royal, Jersey, in the 1980's two strange metal shields where found
It is said that thay are 'snipers sheilds'
I would think that they are to heavy for a sniper to lug around with him and the small leg to hold the shield up would get in the way of a gun?
Anybody got any info on this strange bit of (possibly) bunker kit?
Thanks in advance, Malcolm

I`ve seen quite a few of them here in Norway...
In one case they cover the entire celing of a R622 (!)
On a few of those I`ve seen, you can still read "Krefelder Stahlwerk".
The little info I found on them points at trench shields from WW1...

Yes that ceiling is rather unique
There must have been a shortage of steel plates at the time of construction!
A lot of the fortifications in Guernsey have had the base plates of barbed wire stakes used in the same way due to a lack of steel with some still having upto 5cm of the stake still left sticking out
A couple of the 15cm SKC28 emplacements at Battery Annes in Alderney have wood planks used as a substitute for the steel plates.

I think every army used this kind of plate in a trenchwar.
Here's a picture from a plate used by the Dutch in the 1940s.

Btw, wasn't the bunker at Bel Royal a 115d?

I've never been inside nor have I seen any drawings.
Just thought the turret was placed so high it looked like a Baustarke A
bunker to me.
I believe there are still some 113d bunkers in Poland, must have a look there..
