Turkey, Italy and a Syrian insurgency

#1

Post by Andy H » 06 Feb 2007, 03:43

The British Naval attache in Ankara (Turkey) sent a telegram on June 16th 1940 to the CiC Med, that mentioned in Part 6 (of the telegram), that "Turks have 2 Army Corps on the Syrian frontier, inc Cavalry Division, if Italians give trouble there".

Italian efforts to raise the Syrian natives proved unsuccessful. Just what were these efforts and what were the Turkish plans for an invasion of Syria?

Regards

Not entirely sure, but I believe that this refers to an Italian attack (don't laugh) and not to maintaining order.
