My first collection

Postby ww2vault on 01 Mar 2007 23:46

Hello everyone,

I bought four items from an antique dealer that is the very start of my collection. The dealer said it was all authentic and hopefully they are right. The dealer gets most of their WWII items from traveling to Hungry and parts of the U.S.

Part of me wants this all to be real but I would be very glad to know if any of it is not. I would rather know it isn't authentic then tell others it is.

Since I have so many images I put them all onto a web page. Click here to visit the page.

The items include:

.:. 1944 Deutscher Volkssturm Wehrmacht armband; no markings or tags.
.:. Sharpshooter Qualification Badge; "F" on middle back and "Sterling" on the bottom back.
.:. Marksman Qualification Badge with attached Rifle Bar; "Sterling" on top on the cross.
.:. German Reich Workbook issued 1940; previously used by a german worker, has handwriting and some stamp marks inside of it.
.:. 1938 Silver 2 Reichs Mark
.:. 1938 Copper-Gold plated 1 Reichspfennig

I have had the two coins for a while now but the other four items is the start of what I hope to be a nice collection. I am what you would call a purist when I collect WWII items and only want the authentic thing. I would be very glad if you guys could tell me if any of this isn't real.

Thanks. :)

the first may be real may be repro. There are alot of repro volkssturm armbands out there.
the next 2 items are not german but actually US awards for marksmanship:
.:. Sharpshooter Qualification Badge; "F" on middle back and "Sterling" on the bottom back.
.:. Marksman Qualification Badge with attached Rifle Bar; "Sterling" on top on the cross.
the 2 mark coin is a common coin
they never made gold coins

Yes, I was starting to think that the armband might be a fake after looking at images of other Volkssturm armbands online. The main thing that stands out to me is the red borders are smaller then in the other pictures. I would like to also hear some one else opinion on this as well.

I knew the two medals were American Qualification Badges, I was wondering if they were authentic since there seems to be many different Qualification Badges that have markings on the back that are all in different spots.

I didn't realise Germany never made gold plated coins, thank you for pointing this out to me.

Mainly I would like to know if the armband is authentic since that is what I think is the least likely to be real.

Thanks for posting Pzrwest. :)

Hello,

Can you please send me some photograps of the Volksturm armband?
A small tip: try searching for some original ww2 photos showing the Volksturm in use. The only way to learn about ww2 militaria is to do a lot of comparing & observation.

Best Regards,

Axisfactbook, HRS

PS: Good luck with your collection. I think I've still got some spare items of ww2 German Militaria, If you wish I can make a list of 'em, so you can see what you're interested in.

Lots and lots of fakes out there!

Since when did third reich use "oesterreich" instead of "österreich" in arbeitsbuch?
But hey, these things happens - if you are going to collect WW2 german militaria.
Better luck in future ww2vault!

cheers,
