Italian POWs in Orkney

#1

Post by KJane » 22 Mar 2007, 16:52

Hi,

I am a postgraduate student researching for a book about the experience of Italian POWs in Orkney, Scotland, who were involved in building the churchill barriers.

In particular any info about the members of the sixth anti aircraft regiment of the Mantova division, who I think served in Libya.

Can anyone help. Failing that any experiences of Italian anti aircraft warfare would also be useful.

Thanks

KJ

I'm sorry but your data don't fit any existing italian unit...

1) A 6th AA Artillery Regiment never existed
2) Italian divisions didn't include an AA regiment
3) Mantova division didn't fight in Lybia

at your dispo for any other need

However, making a little research for some unit which could be in some way similiar to your data, I found that the VI Battalion of 4th AA Artillery Regiment (unit garrisoned in Mantova in peacetime) had effectively fought in Lybia.
What do you think?

Well that would explain why I've found it so difficult - I got the info from a book by the orcadian Ernest Marwick but he must have been wrong. Will see if I can check out your suggestion more - I'm tracing members who were taken to a POW camp in Egypt and then to Orkney.

Thanks
