Generalmajor Graf Karl Marquard Viktor von Kageneck

Said to be the last WW1 German general.Died in 1967 at the age of 96.German military attache in Vienna 1908–1914.

Father of:

Erbo Graf von Kageneck(1918-1942),Luftwaffe pilot,Oak Leaves to Knights Cross
Franz Josef Graf von Kageneck(1915-1941),killed in action December 1941
Clemens-Heinrich Graf von Kageneck(1913-2005),Panzer commander,Oak Leaves to Knights Cross
August Graf von Kageneck(1922-2004),WW2 service in Cavalry,author,correspondent for Die Welt in Paris postwar.

Any further information would be appreciated on the Generalmajor.

Generalmajor Karl Marquard Viktor Graf v. Kageneck:

Karl Graf Kageneck was commissioned into the Leib-Garde-Husaren-Regiment at Potsdam on 18 January 1891 serving as a squadron officer and then as the Regimental Adjutant. He attended the War Academy from 1 October 1898 to July 1901. Attached to the General Staff On 1 April 1902, he was assigned to that institution on 22 March 1903 as a supernumerary officer (aggregiert). On 27 January 1904 he was simultaneously promoted to Hauptmann, formerly transfered into the General Staff and assigned to the staff of the VIII Army Corps. On the 1st of October 1905 he returned to the Great General Staff and was assigned as the Military Attaché in Brussels. On 21 September 1906 he was appointed as an ADC to the Kaiser (Flügel-Adjutant) and appointed as the Military Attaché in Vienna.

Thanks Glenn!

My understanding is that Graf von Kageneck later served as a Secretary under Papen,involved further in Austrian affairs as a diplomat 1935-1938.
