How was he related to the fmous Hasso von Mateuffel?

He was, according to this site awarded with the DKiG at
Stab zbV/Panzergrenadier-Brigade
Maybe I am bling tonight, but which staff is meant here??

At least he was from December 1939 till October 1941 Kdr. of SR 3...

Jan-Hendrik,

If I’m not mistaken, the unit in question was the 19. Panzer-Grenadier-Brigade:

Hi Shawn,

Mi infos on SkiJgBrg. are are a bit different from the info on LdW, the beginning of raising this Brg. under the command of Oberst Hans von Schlebrügge did not start before September 1943 and lasted till december!

Hi Jan-Hendrik,

all this Manteuffel / Skijäger-Brigade stuff is a bit confusing and I'm not through it (see also Marcus' post here)

Tessin has :
Panzergrenadier-Brigade 19 ; since 26.04.1943 : Stoßgruppe von Manteuffel (ex Källner)
used to form Stab 1. Skijäger-Division on 02.06.1944 by renaming
not clear to me if Stab z.b.V. = Pz.Gren-Brig 19 existed such long.

if you go on reading this LdW link you find for Genmaj Günther von Manteuffel :
jan 1944 - march or april 1944 : Kdr 16. Pz.Gren.Div !!
not yet found another confirmation for that.

regards, Bernd

I think we're starting to get down to root of the contradicting sources.

As i posted yesterday, i mentioned that one reason Manteuffel can have been quoted as a commander of the 1 Skijäger Brig. would be if he commanded a formation that included several of the Jäger batallione that would go on to merge and form the 2 Skijäger regimenter of the brigade.

http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=121301

That does indeed seem to be the case

from the lexikon
Ab April 1943 wird die Gruppe unter Oberst von Manteuffel zur Führung von 5 Jäger-Bataillonen bei der Heeresgruppe Mitte eingesetzt.
Also in the book 'Die Deutschen Skijäger' no mention is made of Manteuffel commanding the brigade.

If the stab of the 19 Pz.Gren-Brig. was indeed used to form the stab of the 1 Skijäger Brig. then he didn't come with it to the new formation.

Excellent stuff Dieter. Always good when confusing mistakes made in published reference works can get cleared up.

Hello,
01.12.1939 Kdr. Schützen-Rgt. 3 (Wegmann/Zweng: 04.12.1939 - 00.10.1941)
Indeed, looks like he was replaced already in October 1941 by Oberstleutnant Hermann ZIMMERMANN (18.11.1897 Magdeburg – 11.01.1978 Lehnsahn).

Regarding Jan-Hendrik's original question, Hasso was a first cousin, once removed. Hasso's grandfather Karl was the half-brother of Günther's father Franz.
