Benita von Falkenhayn, also known as Baroness von Berg, had the distinction not only of being one of the last people to be legally beheaded by the heading axe in Germany, but also to have been the first female aristocrat to lose her head to the Nazi New Justice.

Yes,I apologise to all.

Benita was the former daughter in law of Erich von Falkenhayn, Prussian Minister of War and Chief of the Imperial German General Staff 1914-1916.

Also Erich von Falkenhayn's only daughter Erika was married to Henning von Tresckow,one of the July 1944 conspirators.

The controversy of the beheading with an axe, was apparently too much even for Hitler. According to wikipedia, he decreed after this event, that executions should be carried out with the guillotine, or by hanging.

Further findings here( http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=127110 ) have established that Richard von Falkenhayn was not the son of Erich von Falkenhayn so Benita was not the former daughter in law of the Prussian Minister of War.
