Town identification request - possibly Gradec, Slovenia?

Postby Akira Takiguchi on 23 Nov 2007 13:54

Hello from Japan,

I would be very grateful if someone out there can identify the town photographed. A sign appears to read "Gradek", so possibly Gradec, Slovenia?

Best wishes

Hi Akira!

You're pictures are always very interesting.

The houses in the both photos do not appear to show features common for these parts of Europe.

I've googled around for more references. And it would seem that there is a town in Poland Gradek or more common Grodek (don't know if the two are the same) and judging from some photos such as this one:

it would appear that this is very likely your town or at least region - as you can notice the houses are basically identical.

Do you know by any chance what kind of a unit is shown on the photos.

Best Regards
Marko

On the upper picture, the two guys on the left seems to be members of a local security force / police.
Can someone specialized on that tell what country they are from?

@Akira
Maybe you can make a larger detail scan of them? They seem to be the best clue to verifiy at least the country.

Dear Marko, thank you very much and yes, identically built houses! It was in Poland! (and this forum may not have been a correct choice, move to a better forum if necessary please)

Here is a close-up from the first picture. Local population is also seen.

Hi Akira!

Thanks for the close ups and additional photos. Those "local militia" sure don't look like they could come from Slovenia.

I forgot to add the source of photo in my last post, you'll find some additional photos there: http://www.eilatgordinlevitan.com/horodok/horodok.html
