WW I reenacting in Ukraine

#1

Post by Askold » 05 Feb 2008, 07:56

Just wanted to share some pics from a recent reenactment that took place in Ukraine. Very slowly but steady, WWI is becoming a new trend. This battle took place to commemorate the battle of Kruty, where in 1918, 300 students and junkers from Kiev went out to face the invading Bolshevik army (around 4000). Almost all of them fell, but they became national heros. This year was the first time the famous battle was reenacted:

I just picked up a 1918 dated Mosin-Nagant made in the US for the Czarist Army! I would also like to know where you are getting the fantastic uniforms and equipment!

You can get a post-WWII Soviet overcoat from the Sportsman's Guide, Thats what many of them are wearing. We use the same thing for Soviet WWII. Chris

Thanks for the comments guys! A lot of the stuff is custom made, but I think they utilised old Soviet overcoats as those would have the same colour. Most of those guys do Gebirsjager and Soviet reenacting, so you'd see some German bits and pieces but that was first time such massive battle took place.

Here are some more pics from the Summer events - reenactment of "Brusilov Offensive" by the Tsarist army against Austro-Hungary. One club does the Tsarist troops the other Ukrainian Legion in the Austrian army(funny enough they were called SS due to abbreviation). Enjoy:
