Any recoilless guns in Normandy or Market Garden?
Did any FJ units in Normandy or Eindhoven-Arnhem area have any 7.5cm LG40 or 10.5cm LG40/1 Recoilless guns?

A few LG guns show up in quartermaster records of the LXXXVIII records in Sept/October. They are listed under the 59th division, which had a few FJ units attached to it. I dont have the ID of those FJ units offhand, but they are known.

In an official document written by an officer of the 506th PIR (101st Airborne) after the war for an officer class at Fort Benning, I found a mention of a recoiless riffle (probably a 7,5 cm LG40) in the hand of the “6th Parachute Regiment” during the fight for Vierville (north of Carentan) on June 7, 1944:
“One item of equipment captured was a wheeled 75 mm recoiless riffle. This was the first and only weapon of this kind encountered by the regiment though its value was not realized”.

Re: Any recoilless guns in Normandy or Market Garden?
Hi guys!
Could someone answer my question? I have studied a couple of german military books (among many others) e. g.
F. M. von Senger und Etterlin: Die deutschen Geschütze 1939-1945
J. Engelmann: Das Buch der Artillerie 1939-1945
but i could't find the important answer: how many gunners were operating the Leichtgeschütz??
It would be very useful if someone could name the origin of this info.
Best wishes,
Zsolt Reszegi

There is mentioning of one battalion of FJR6 that was switched for one of 59I.D.Tom Peters wrote:A few LG guns show up in quartermaster records of the LXXXVIII records in Sept/October. 59I.D. did the logistic support of FJR6 and was positioned somewhat in the back of FJR6
It's possible that this was done as a safety mesure to keep the escape routes open or even against para-droppings towards Tilburg.
