Examination of a "Wassermann S" bunker.

#1

Post by Erik E » 03 Feb 2003, 02:03

Hallo!

I`m pretty bored right now, so I thought I would share this special finding I did last summer.

The L-480 was a bunker designed to house the large Wassermann S radar.
It measures 27x12 meters and is 7 meters high.
I got tipped by a friend that there should be a radar position near Lista in southern Norway. All I had was a big red circle on a 1:50000 map!

On a early saturday morning, I drove the 3,5 hours to get there. I started my search by the coast and it only took me 2 hours to find this impressive costruction.

While approaching it, I begged it to be open, as these bunkers are very rare. None of them had ever been registrated in Norway before, so I had to get in to get a 100% ID!
The entrance wes partlt covered with rocks but I managed to slip inside.
Most of the bunker was filled with 15-20 CM`s of water. I had not the proper shoes but what the heck :)
The interior was in bad shape. All the water had caused massive corrosion.
After a few drawings and comparision to original drawings, I was glad that I (Officialy) had found the first L-480 in Norway! :D

Was the entrance blocked with rocks purposely by the government so that none could get it? Btw, were there still present any warning signs inside the bunker from the occupation era?

I think it was done by the landowner to prevent his cows to get inside....
were there still present any warning signs inside the bunker from the occupation era
No, nothing at all, which I find a bit strange as most of the other bunkers in the area have.......

So there used to be this kind of mast, right?
Yes! The bunker surely didn`t give protection to this "christmas tree" 8)

Breaking News a "new" L 480 found

Thanks to Eric and Olivier and with permission of the Maire of Porspoder a group of
bunkerfans from France and Belgium have opened and visit a L 480 ( early model ) at Porspoder .

This is the second L 480 ( Boulogne ) that was not placed directly near a Luftwaffe radar station ,
The L 480 at Porspoder could be belonging to the radarpost Pinquin ( St Pabu )

Hello

Did there ever turn up any more pictures of this interesting bunker?

Are there any pictures of the L480 at Helligsø out there?

Regards
Kurt

as you can see the forward part in concrete where the wasserman was i put a circle but the walls are not in a circle
At that period i couldn t measure this part properly
so here we have an error in our plan
