Cramer => Raus Corps

#1

Post by Abel Ravasz » 08 Feb 2003, 14:22

Hi,

could anyone please tell me when did the transition of the Cramer zbv Corps into Raus zbv Corps take place? Was this transition just a change in the name/commander, or did it involve any organizational changes?
Thank You in advance,
best,

Abel

I believe that happened on Feb 12, 1943 and was solely due to the change in commander (Erhard Raus for Hans Cramer). I'm not sure why the change, as Raus only out ranked Cramer by a few days. Perhaps it was so that Cramer could be rushed to N. Africa to take command of the DAK. About 4 months later, Korps Raus became XI A.K.

Maybe that the date of transition could actually have been the 28th of Feb? Where did you get the 12th Feb from?

Thanks for responding so fast,

Abel

In checking on this I find I was wrong. The correct date for the transfer of command from Cramer to Raus was Feb 10, not Feb 12, and certainly not Feb 28! This information is found in documents from Erhard Raus' personnel file so I am confident of its veracity. The dolt that put that information on that website you mentioned ought to be ashamed of himself for foisting erroneous information on the netsurfing public!!

According to all the sources I have, Cramer took charge of the D.A.K. on 5th March 1943, so it does seem highly unlikely that he was still in southern Russia as late as the end of February!

The 10th sounds more logical to me too. Thanks again for solving the puzzle,

Abel
