Mkb 42 in Stalingrad?
Tripwire Interactive, the makers of Red Orchestra and now Red Orchestra 2, are adding the Mkb 42. They say they have a "picture" that confirms the use of Mkb 42s at Stalingrad. But after reading a few books via Google Books, all of them say that a small portion of them were dropped south of Leningrad near Cholm. The unit that received them from the air drop was Kampfgruppe Scherer.
Can anyone tell me if they were or not used in Stalingrad with read evidence instead of conjecture or flimsy evidence? Would you know if it was the Mkb 42(h) or (w) that was dropped?

I only see a thread discussing the MG 42. I'm talking about the Mkb 42.

Re: Mkb 42 in Stalingrad?
No, first recorded action of the MKb.42 was in limited combat trials in April 1943. The story of them being droped into the Cholm pocket and used during the sucessful breakout is most likely just that; a story.
Also the rifle in the photo posted in Russ's thread above is clearly a MP.43/44/StG.44 not a MKb.42

Thanks for the info. But do can you cite your source on this one? I mean it's not that I don't trust you, but fanboys of unrealistic weapons be implemented into what is called a realistic game will say this information is made up.yabint wrote:No, first recorded action of the MKb.42 was in limited combat trials in April 1943. Pg 157 of "Sturmgewehr from Firepower to Striking Power" by Hans - Dieter Handrich. Also read this thread: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=105168
Also this photo: (pictured in the Tripwire discussion)
Appears in "The MKb 42, MP43, MP44 and the Sturmgewehr 44" book from the Propaganda Photo series Pg. 65. It is describes as Northern Russia, Summer of 1943. (Bundesarchiv Kolblenz No. 698/49/27A)

So the use of this weapon in 1942 is highly unlikely? That is how I'm taking the information being posted.yabint wrote:Pg 157 of "Sturmgewehr from Firepower to Striking Power" by Hans - Dieter Handrich. Also read this thread: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=105168

Re: Mkb 42 in Stalingrad?
i will find this link again but i read at some stage that as a battlefield trial of the weapon a handful of MKB42s were issued to Veterans in areas of heavy fighting in late '42 on the eastern front. Stalingrad included. the survivors were later brought back to Germany to convince Hitler to allow production of the weapon (remember that when the Mkb42 was created, Hitler was sceptical, but his decision was changed when officials sent him veterans who testimoned to him how well the weapon worked. afterwards an improved version (MP43) was produced )

I really doubt that. There is not a single reliable source and/or photo known to back up this theory.
