Another request concerning
Generalarzt z.V. (from 01.09.1942) Primarius Dr. med. Wenzel Zemann

I found in
Fischer, Hubert “Der deutsche Sanitätsdienst 1921-1945“, Biblio Osnabrück, 1982 - 1988,
5 volmes and 2 supplement volumes,
on page 3043

another birth date: * 11.05.1875

The * 02.05.1875 birth date comes from Nachruf für Prim. Dr. Wenzel Zemann (Monatsschrift für Ohrenheilkunde und Laryngo-Rhinologie 98: 1964).

Also:
GM Hans Henke (* 15.03.1878 Wiesbaden; † 27.08.1956 Haus Tannenberg über Haffkrug), not "Haus Tauenberg" (sic). I've found a reference here ("Gaststätten und Pensionen" in Sierksdorf), where a Haus Tannenberg is mentioned (which is located north of Haffkrug) and was apparently managed by Frau Erica Henke.

GM Hans (Johannes) Lisso (* 02.12.1896 Großbadegast bei Cöthen; † 27.07.1980 München), according to Deutsches Soldatenjahrbuch he died on 04.07.1980 rather than on 27.07.1980 (as per ABR).

GM Günther von Goeckel (* 12.04.1889 Neustadt an der Orla; † 20.12.1979 Bad Kissingen)

The complete dates/places of birth/death of Josef Magoy, Hans (von) Manussi (Edler von Montesole), Otto Matterstock, Leopold Milisch, Hellmuth Nickelmann, Leo Pummerer, Ludwig Riebesam, Ferdinand Rügamer, Aurel Schmidt (von Nagyatád), August Schmidt (Edler von Luisingen), Friedrich Schumacher, Wolfgang Stahr, Walter Steinmüller, Karl Stingl, Johann Simmler, Ernst Thümmel, Bruno Ubl, Bernhard Ueberschär and Franz Zedniček (along with the respective promotion dates from Oberstleutnant onwards), have been posted in Balsi's forum by member "racker", to whom I am of course extremely grateful:

http://forum.balsi.de/index.php/topic,7750.0.html

They will undoubtedly fill a lot of gaps in some files around here!

P.S.: It looks like (http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1744370) I nailed Riebesam's place of birth :P

Dmitrij, thanks for your interesting input!!

Jake, thanks for you input. 2 questions:

1. Raschick: Now following to yout input on page 1 I have three dates of death for Raschick in Lager Mühlberg.
15.05.1946 (most online sources)
31.05.1946 (your DoD)
02.06.1946 (http://www.lager-muehlberg.de/index.htm ... phien.html)

2. von Werder: Are you sure about your DoD for Wolfgang. I thought that I have written the DoD from the GHdA series, but I am not totally sure. I have: 06.03.1948

Hello,

1. The 31.05.1946 date inititaly came from Wegmann's Stellenbesetzung, which contains complete birth/death dates for nearly every officer mentioned. In addition, the same date is mentioned here. Since this list is apparently based on Die Generäle des Dritten Reiches in sowjetischer Hand (sourced from data from Soviet archives), I'd go with it.

2. The relevant excerpt from GHda can be viewed online here. I have noted that GHdA and LdW give different DoDs, but I have not yet found any source supporting the 1948 date. GHdA is a trustworthy work, altough personally I believe the dates from LdW are more accurate.

Hi Jake!

1. Thanks. Correct you are.
2. Strange. I was so sure that I have received the 1948-DoB from GHdA. Maybe the volume I was looking into give contrad. info to the online volume.

Cheers!

GM Friedrich Kammel (* 26.04.1886 Bensen/Böhmen, heute Benešov nad Ploučnicí/Tschechien; † 28.04.1942 bei Parkkina/Rajon Petschenga (Selbstmord))
GdPzTr Ulrich Kleemann (* 23.03.1892 Langensalza; † 01.01.1963 Birstein/Kreis Gelnhausen) (as per GHdA)
GM Viktor von Marnitz (* 1.(jul.)/13.(greg.)10.1890 Mitau, heute Jelgava/Lettland; † 30.11.1960 Marburg an der Lahn)
GdKav Günther von Pogrell (* 05.06.1879 Nassadel/Kreis Wartenberg, heute Nosale/Polen; † 08.07.1944 Bad Reichenhall)
GM Wilhelm Thams (* 22.08.1886 Kriesebyau/Kreis Eckernförde; † 01.03.1948 ebenda (?))
GM Eckart von Tschammer und Osten (* 05.12.1885 Dresden; † 29.01.1946 Kiew (hingerichtet))

GL Siegfried Verhein (* 01.10.1897 Gahlkow bei Greifswald; † 01.01.1963 Rod an der Weil)
GM Ernst Wening (* 07.01.1886 München; † 11.04.1947 Munsterlager (in Gefangenschaft))

and from here:
GL Hubert Stenzel (* 02.03.1884 in Theresienthal/Mähren, heute Terezín/Gemeinde Petrov nad Desnou/Tschechien; † 10.04.1951 Steinaweg)

also, Feldgrau gives for GM Rüdiger von Schuler † 09.12.1947 Mülheim an der Ruhr. A confirmation for this would be useful!

plus, a correction for GM Theodor Kretzschmer: † 18.08.1941 bei Saretschje/Rajon Kingissepp (russisch Заречье (Кингисеппский район)) (gefallen)

Also, a hypothesis for the p.o.b. for Char. GL Hans Kloebe – according to Möller–Witten, Geschichte der Ritter des Ordens „Pour le mérite“ im Weltkrieg: "* 13.02.1870, bis zum 12. Lebensjahr Erziehung im Elternhause in Griechenland [...]". There was a Carl Julius Alexander Kloebe who became Konsul des Norddeutschen Bundes in the Greek island of Syra (Σύρος) (with seat at Hermoupolis/Ερμούπολη) in 1868 and Konsul des Deutschen Reichs there in 1871. The London Gazette claims that the Konsul died in 00.02.1882, when Hans (presumably his son) was 12. So, there is a possibility that Hans Kloebe was born in Hermoupolis, but this remains a mere hypothesis.

Given the chance, I would also like to wish all members of the AHF a happy & productive new year full of health and happiness! :D

Last time I forgot to add an addition by GHdA:

GL Justin von Obernitz (* 30.12.1884 Machnitz bei Trebnitz, heute Machnice/Polen; † 24.09.1955 Kiel)

I have also been searching the birthplace of Char. GdA Alfred Ziethen. According to the Litzmannstädter Zeitung he was from Pommern. At that point, I noticed that one more known Ziethen, Friedrich Wilhelm Oskar Ziethen, * 07.08.1858 in Stettin, the exact same date as Alfred Ziethen. Oskar's father was a Major of the Artillery and his mother was Mathilde geb. Griebel.

Thanks to VJK, there is a portrait of Alfred Ziethen so we can compare it to Oskar's (unneeded, but left: Alfred Ziethen, right: Oskar Ziethen):
Image Image
(from http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 41#p905541 & http://www.luise-berlin.de/bms/bmstext/9804porb.htm, respectively)

I do not consider myself an expert in the comparison of facial characteristics, but they certainly resemble each other. If they are indeed twin brothers, then my question is answered.

Another hypothesis concerning Generalmajor z. V. Edgar Grun (* 06.09.1876; † 06.11.1962 Garmisch–Partenkirchen); Keilig as well as Bradley et al. claim that the place of birth is Dastoff/Baden. A simple search, however, reveals that "Dastoff" doesn't exist anywhere in Germany (including the former territories).

However, there was an artillery officer named Grun, who in 1876 was "Artillerie–Offizier v. Platz" in Rastatt (Baden). (According to the Militär–Wochenblatt: † 30.12.1888). "Rastatt", when written in Gothic script, widely in use in the German Army until WWII, looks like "Dastoff", albeit hastily read.
