Division zbV 300
Division zbV 300
The above unit was formed from the staff of the shattered 13th [/i]Luftwaffe Division : plus 4 Estonian Border Guard Regiments or Police Regiments : numbered 2nd,4th,5th & 6th plus a jager Btn and several batteries of artillery. All under the command of General Major Hofer. The reported strength on September 18th 1944 was 10,268. of which 6,017 were allocated to the 4 aformentioned regiments plus Estonian Field Polizei Battalions 286,288 & 289. giving it one of the largest strength returns within AG North. Also less than 500 Germans were attached to the unit.
I have several points I would like to clarify if possible.
1) Were the 4 main Regiments, Police or Border Guard and what is the difference if any :
2) Was the division destroyed in September 1944 by the Russian 2nd Shock Army or was it captured in Kurland in 1945.
3) When the division was manning the front, it's units were split into 2 Brigades. Were they numbered a who commanded them :
4) Also Security Regiment 113 (1300 men) & Marine Battalion Eichstadt (300 men) were attached at a later date. Has anyone any info on either unit :
5) One source (Mitcham) say's that the divisional staff came from the 1st Luftwaffe Division, not the 13th, which one :

Re: Division zbV 300
I would like to know about the actions that Division zbV 300 did on the Eastern Front please. I heard that this division wasn't a first rate division at all. It had men who were not seasoned fighting veterans at all right? I know that this division didn't have any Knight's Cross holders at all. What battalion in that division fought the hardest against the Soviet Army?

Hi Guys,
I took part (briefly) in a discussion on Feldgrau about this division nearly fifteen years ago:

Thank you for that information you got from feldgrau. I yet to hear some combat reports of the performance of Division zbV 300 though.

Re: Division zbV 300
Hello Edward
i think it was an divisional Staff zbV. only, this staff had no "kriegsgliederungsmäßig" units to order, just tactical subordinated units
the OoB is without date, maybe January 1945
