Locke is right. Also only place in Yugoslavia Hitler ever visited was Maribor(now in Slovenia). After the capitulation, Germans, Bulgarians and Italians had numerous clashes with remnants of Royal Yugoslavian army assembled around Colonel Dragoslav (Draza) Mihajlovic appointed general at the beggining of the war by goverment in exile in London.

Hello Kocjo!
As you maybe know I am at the moment researching the Balkan campaign for the April 1941 reports for my site.
But I must honestly say at the moment I did not come over anything more than short skirmishes against the yugoslavian army. I am afraid it is the truth that they mostly ran instead of fight.

Does anybody expect a major battle after Slovenians defect and return to their Germanic roots. Croatia also defects without a fight and proclaims a fascist republic becoming independent for the first time in 1000 years, not surprisingly Germany was also the first country to recognise Croatian independence in the 90’s thus forcing the EU’s hand. Germany seems to have a good memory.
Furhtermore there is no Command and Control of the Army as there is confusion in Belgrade and the country.
The campaign was absolutely insignificant in terms of WWII. However the resistance movement after the occupation have become well known although their effect was greatly exaggerated by Communist propaganda.
In summary Yugoslavia was totally insignificant during WW II.
PS
Apart from the fact that Croatia is the place of the 3rd Largest Concentration camp of WW II Jasenovac were 100,000’s(Figures are not clearly established and vary between authors) of Serbs, Jews and Gypsies were exterminated.

Hello!
I agree that looking at the mix of nationalities and their history no serious resistance could be expected.
Especially the macedonian soldiers were very pleased to get rid of the serbian rulers and were pretty happy to have the chance to surrender.
The reports of the german units often say that as soon as the soldiers saw that the commander or command structures were out of reach they just went home.
