Another ID question for the forum. The photo came from my grandfather's albums, so it could be from either Eastern or Western Front.
This is just for curiosity's sake, since I know that my grandfather collected many types of firearms during the war. He actually got busted back down to Gefreiter when someone found his stash!

It's a French MAS36 rifle or Gewehr 242(f) for the Germans.
Fusil MAS Mle 36
Type : Bolt action rifle
Total length : 1020 mm (1320 mm with bayonet)
Weight (empty) : 3.75 kg
Barrell Length : 580 mm
Caliber : 7.5x54 mm
Magazine : 5 rounds clips
V° : 825 m.s-1
Some 250000 were delivered to the French army up to 23rd June 1940. Issued to snipers and elite troops. Known units that definitely had them were the 1st and 2nd Spahis brigades. Beyond that they were issued to all sorts of infantry and mechanized units. Used by Germans under ther name Gewehr 242(f).
