- Das SS-Sonderkommando Dirlewanger: Ein Beispiel deutscher Besatzungspolitik in Weißrussland
b) Antonio J. Munoz:

- The Kaminski Brigade: A History, 1941 - 1945

Any comments on these books?
Which is better:
a) The Kaminski Brigade: A History, 1941 - 1945 or this one
b) Die Brigade Kaminski: Partisanenbekämpfung in Rußland - Weißrußland - Warschau?

Kocjo

Books
Hello !
The Cruel Hunters is a good book and probably the best in english on Dirlewanger, there is not much about the enlisted men apart form mostly about casualties and general backgrounds, much more on operations and officers and the overall strategies Dirlewanger unit was involved in plus the maschinations of Oskar hismelf. There is no index which is always a bit of a let down, so if you want to remember something you have read and look back you hav to flick through the book. Otherwise is v.useful.
The COlin Heation book I also have, this is what I call myself a bit 'dry'. I got it as a goft when asked what I would like. Half the book is reproduced strategic maps that after a while with me blur into one confused mess and I have not really used, if someone would like to enlighten me as to their usefulness I would appreciate this! Maybe there is a gem I have missed. for me there was not enough on the operations of the adriatisches Kustenland, Yugoslavia et al, so I was a little dissapointed, it means I will now have to search out book on the units that were there and read through them instead, useful for the definitions and background to the partisan and guerilla warfare ideals and tactics/support though, so don't discout it!
Regards

Kocjo,
The US Army published a number of pamphlets after the war. I have one entitled "The Soviet Partisan Movement 1941-1944" by Edgar M. Howell, Department of the Army Pamphlet No. 20-244, August 1956. I use it as my standard on the subject. I found it in a used book store and I believe it is long out of print.
