AHLF, you are a real asset!

This pic is amazing because one can see Manstein´s Krim shield in Gold with very good effect.

Best thanks!

btw: I´m sure that´s Busse. But the other guys ... again food for thought.

For certain, I can tell that the man on the right of AH is Gen. obst. Kurt Zeitzler. As for the second one, like you just said- food for thought...

Hi!

I believe that the General standing on the right of Hitler in the pic is Kurt Zeitzler. As for the other GFM - Ewald von Kleist?

Regards,

VJK

Kleist is a very good guess! Spot on, I think.

AHLF would it be possible to have a high res scan of Manstein. I am psyched because of his arm shield. Would be nice.

Good thinking VJK! Indeed it's quite noticable that his ("Kleist's") collar patches are extended, which means that he's a pure GFM! :D
Nice!

Ok, here's the scan (If it's not sharp enough, don't blame my scanning abilities  )

Now, it's time to claim my courtesy...

Sources

Post by Matt Gibbs » 26 Nov 2003, 18:53

Gentlemen,
I am interested to know the root sources for some of the pictures here posted, ie whether Original photos are owned by the posters, or where they are scanned form etc etc..???
Some I know have been scanned by someone from one of the Arndt publications of photo collection of Walter Frentz...
Personally and I am NOT getting at anybody, but I like to see thins info, it goves credit for the photo source where known and is a useful research tool for others who might want to get books etc.
Also, it might cover someones ass when somebody tells Arndt we have all the lovely pics from their books on this site.
Regards
Matt Gibbs

Schoerner not Busse

For the color picture of Manstein, I think Schoerner is back of AH not Busse.

Hi,

It's Busse and not Schoerner because Schoerner was rarely seen without his PLM. Busse was a relatively young staff officer who won his RK only on 30.01.44. He was not wearing one since Manstein looked like he was still running the show -- Manstein was canned on 31.03.44 as Oberhefehlshaber Army Group Don so this picture predated Busse getting knighted, so to speak.

Cheers
Freiherr

A black and white sequence of photographs from the same conference appear in Manstein: Stratege und Truppenführer by J. Engelmann. They were taken at the Wolfsschanze on the 15th of September 1943. Manstein was accompanied by his Chief of Staff Generalleutnant Busse. Also present at the conference were Generalfeldmarschall von Kleist, Generaloberst Zeitzler, Generaloberst Ruoff and General der Panzertruppe Kempf.

Glenn
