Camp Guards Killed by Inmates

#1

Post by Schmauser » 20 Jun 2002, 14:56

Does anyone know of any camp guards who were killed by the inmates after liberation? the only one who springs to mind is Ewald Ehlers, he was lynched by his own men from the Dirlewanger Brigade because he had served at Dachau and they were former prisoners. Surely there were several hundred who were murdered?

A few names from the Sobibor extermination camp, killed during the uprising on 14 October 1943:

Unterscharführer Josef Wulf
Untersturmführer Niemann
Oberscharführer Goettinger
Scharführer Greischutz
Scharführer Kurt Beckmann
Scharführer Friedrich Gaulstich
Unterscharführer Walter Ryba

A total of 11 SS men were killed during the uprising. In Sobibor there were about 700 prisoners on October 14. At least 150 of them did not take part in the uprising and were shot the following day. About 230 - 270 prisoners were killed during the uprising inside the camp or at the fences and minefield. During the searches and pursuit, 100 of the 300 prisoners who escaped were caught and shot. From the 200 prisoners who evaded the pursuit, about 130-150 perished between that time and the liberation and 50-70 survived.

The source of this information is: Yitzhak Arad, Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka. The Operation Reinhard Death Camps, chapters 40 and 44.

Does Franz Ziereis count as being murdered? He was shot after the liberation of Mauthausen. He did not die instantly but was not treated by the allies for his wounds he lasted three or four days. He lived long enough to give some good details on how the camp was ran.

Hello JohnRay,

SS-Staf Franz Ziereis wasn´t kille dby the inmates from KL Mauthausen
he was deadly wounded by US tropps who was looking after him,
the shot him after a "shot out" at his huntinghouse near the camp where
he and his wife hided.
After the intorregation of him and his death the corpse of Ziereis was
hanged on the barbed wire of the Aussenlager Gusen.

Best regards,

Georg

Ps. If you look for lynched SS members you should look on those who
got killed at KL Dachau when it was libirated, among them SS-Ustuf
Heinrich Wicker who turned the camp over to the US Army.

SS-Scharführer Walter Nowak
SS-Scharführer Thomas Steffel

Can anyone provide me with some info about the SS men killed in Dachau, as far as I know they were the least guilty for the things that happened there... I've read sometnihg about it on WSSOB, but can't rememer the unit.

I was also reading a book about Treblinka some time ago and there was a huge revolt descirbed which afterwards led to the destruction of the camp. The book was a novel, but did it have any truth in it?

best,
Nibelung

In the ramp, a young girl an american dancer took the gun of one of the SS Guards and begun to shot to the KZ personnal.
I always thought this story was the holocaust version of an urban myth. Is there any evidence for it?
